SINGER/MUSICIAN: GARETH ASHER
![]() From: last.fm
Rock and Roll latched onto Gareth Asher before he turned five. He grew up in the Appalachian foothills of West Georgia , listening to his parents' rock and roll band and singing along with the records of great artists like Don Henley, Jackson Browne, Bob Seager, and Bruce Springsteen. The day he picked up a guitar and strummed it, he knew he'd found his instrument. Passionate about singing, he wrote his first song at age 15 and was jamming with local performers as soon as they would let him in the clubs to play. He continued working on his songwriting and guitar playing while a student at the local university and soon became the featured entertainer in local venues, where his passionate voice delivering original lyrics—the kind that make you want to sit up and listen–quickly developed a loyal audience. Gareth Asher is quick to give credit for the honing of his vocal talents to Jan Smith, whose credits include coaching Rob Thomas of Matchbox 20 and Usher. Jan tapped Gareth to be the opening act for her performance at Atlanta nightspot Eddie's Attic, and he opened for recording artist Angie Aparo when the singer appeared in another metro venue in Atlanta. Gareth Asher released "No Reality" in September 2004. His song "Back to Myself" is featured on Crazy 8 Promotions' compilation release (February 2002) of eight different artists, primarily from the Atlanta area. Gareth Asher was also selected to perform in the 2002, 2003, and 2004 Atlantis Music Conference. In August of 2004, Gareth's second project, as the lead singer of the alternative band, ILLBREAK, was signed to a record deal with IMPRINT RECORDS. Gareth turned his attention to the band as they embarked on a journey recording their debut album, THE FLOOD with producers, Paul Ebersold and Jeff Ott. The band toured the Southeast opening for bands such as 3 Doors Down, Saliva, Breaking Benjamin, 30 Seconds To Mars, etc. After pursuing the dream as lead singer of Illbreak for the past two years, Gareth is turning his attention back to his primary passion—writing and performing songs that are, as he puts it simply, "real." A regular performer on the Atlanta music scene, Gareth Asher is now focusing on his songwriting, with the release of a second studio CD release entitled, "I'm The Earth" due out in May of 2007. Ask fans what they like best about Gareth Asher and they have a simple reply: the passion in his voice, and the lyrics they connect with. Sample lines, from Fly:If everything could be as simple as the music in my ears, then we would chase our dreams instead of running from our fears". Gareth Asher's a young man intent on chasing his dream. And his many fans appear to enjoy hitching along for the ride. Feel free to come along! Website www.garethasher.com |
