SESAC celebrated its songwriters and music publishers behind the year’s most-performed country and Americana songs at the company’s annual Nashville Music Awards, Sunday, Nov. 10, at the Country Music Hall of Fame® and Museum.
Justin Ebach was named SESAC’s Songwriter of the Year  for the second time, taking home his first award in 2017. Ebach’s chart-topping hits from the past year include “Good Girl,” recorded by Dustin Lynch and “Here Tonight,” recorded by Brett Young. The longest running No. 1 Country Airplay song of 2019, “Beautiful Crazy,” co-written by Wyatt Durrette III, published by Rosest Music, and recorded by Luke Combs was named SESAC Song of the Year. Warner Chappell Music took home the Publisher of the Year  accolade during the event, after previously winning the award in 2017.

Dustin Lynch was on hand to present Ebach with his award for Songwriter of the Year, and Song of the Year  and Publisher of the Year  awards were presented by SESAC executives Shannan Hatch and Sam Kling. Eric Church surprised his co-writer, Ray Wylie Hubbard, as he presented him with the award for his song “Desperate Man.”
The awards ceremony kicked off with a lot of energy as Blanco Brown performed his debut smash “The Git Up.” Jimmie Allen provided a moving rendition of his record-breaking debut single “Best Shot” on piano, alongside co-writer and fellow award winner Josh London. Ray Wylie Hubbard took the stage last to perform Eric Church’s “Desperate Man,” which he co-wrote with Church.
The festive event, hosted by Shannan Hatch, SESAC’s Vice President of Creative Services, honored top songwriters and publishers behind the year’s biggest hits in the genres of country and Americana. More than 500 songwriters, publishers, and industry professionals attended the awards celebration, sponsored in part by Sound Royalties, SunTrust, Sweetwater, Bose and Jostens.

Atlanta Track Club Announces 2020 AJC Peachtree Road Race T-Shirt Design Contest

Graphic designers, amateur artists and creative minds looking to have their work appear on Atlanta’s most famous T-shirt are invited to submit designs for the 2020 AJC Peachtree Road Race T-Shirt Contest.
Submissions are now being accepted. Click here to submit a design.
The theme of this year’s AJC Peachtree Road Race is “Move Forward with Atlanta.” Submissions should illustrate the way in which the iconic event continues to shape and reflect growth and change in Atlanta.
“Following an unforgettable celebration of its 50th Running, the AJC Peachtree Road Race moves forward into the next 50 years of the iconic event,” said Race Director Rich Kenah. “The artist who wins this year’s contest will be a major storyline of the Peachtree’s new chapter.”
Artists can submit up to three designs between today and February 1, 2020. Detailed instructions including size, color limits and file types can be found here. A panel of judges from Atlanta Track Club, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and the running community will choose five finalists. The five finalists will be voted on by the public in March with the winning design being revealed at the finish line of the 51st Running of the AJC Peachtree Road Race on July 4, 2020. The artist will win $1,000 and their work will forever be part of Peachtree history.

The AJC Peachtree Road Race T-shirt contest has been a beloved tradition at the world’s largest 10K since 1995. New York Times Bestselling Author Emily Giffin was last year’s winner in a special celebrity edition of the contest. “Lucky Bib,” The design she submitted with local artist and runner Tina Tait received the most votes in the history of the contest.

The 51st Running of the AJC Peachtree Road Race will be held on Saturday, July 4, 2020. The race begins at Lenox Square and ends in Piedmont Park. Registration for Atlanta Track Club members as well as the lottery opens on March 15, 2020.

As they continue their 40th Anniversary Celebration this fall, Fulton County Arts & Culture is presenting a fabulous photography collection and inviting Fulton County families to pose for their very own portraits. From October 30 through November 14, visitors to the Southwest Arts Center Gallery will enjoy an exhibition of striking photos by renowned photographer Thomas Dorsey entitled Family: Pride, Dignity and Togetherness featuring notable Atlanta families including those of Andrew Young, Hank Aaron, Ed Spriggs and Marvin Arrington, Sr. In association with the Dorsey exhibition, during October and November, families from Fulton County can participate in Fulton Families Photo Days at six events across the county. Admission is free for the Dorsey exhibition and the photos events.
“We believe the arts are essential to the social, spiritual, and intellectual health of our communities,” states Lionell Thomas, Director of Fulton County Arts & Culture.  “We’re honoring the legacy of renowned family portrait photographer Thomas Dorsey with an exhibition of his work, and we are celebrating the beauty and diversity of our own Fulton County family by inviting residents to have their portrait taken. We hope they enjoy the art and come celebrate with us!”

Thomas Dorsey exhibition Family: Pride, Dignity and Togetherness

There will be an Opening Reception on Wednesday, October 30 from 6-9 pm, and the exhibition will be on view through November 14 at the gallery at Southwest Arts Center, 915 New Hope Road SW, Atlanta, GA 30331. The gallery is open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10 am to 5 pm. Admission to the exhibition is free.

Thomas Dorsey was born in Augusta, GA, but grew up in Chicago, IL. After a four-year stint in the Air Force, he worked at the Post Office for a decade. Then he became interested in art and pursued a degree in Fine Art from the Art Institute of Chicago. He fell in love with photography which led him to start a business with his wife centered on family portraiture. During the next 32 years he made a name for himself beginning in Chicago, and then in Atlanta, by taking photos of families in their homes. The Family: Pride, Dignity and Togetherness exhibition showcases selected photos of prominent African American families from Fulton County and Chicago taken between 1978 and 2002.

Fulton County Arts & Culture is celebrating 40 years of creative leadership, improving and enhancing the lives of Fulton County residents and visitors through the arts. Their mission is to ensure all citizens have access to the arts for the passion they inspire, the quality of life they afford, and the economic impact they make in the community. FCAC provides broad access to arts programming including classes and free performances at their six community Arts Centers; generous support for area artists and arts organizations through Contracts for Services arts funding; outreach through their numerous community partnerships; and diverse public art experiences through the Fulton County Public Art Program.  For more information visit: fultonarts.org.
