Central City Productions announces the 7th Annual Black Music Honors live tapping at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre in Atlanta, Ga. on Thursday, May 19. The star-studded two-hour event will honor artists and musicians who have influenced and made significant contributions to American music.
​This year’s remarkable group of honorees include Multi-Platinum, Award-Winning Supergroup Dru Hill who will receive the Urban Music Icon Award; Five-Time GRAMMY Nominee Tevin Campbell who will be honored with the R&B Icon Award and Multi-Award-Winning; Gospel Duo Mary Mary will be presented with the Gospel Icon Award; NAACP Image Award-Winning Singer Karyn White will also be recognized with the Soul Music Award; Award-Winning Singer-Songwriter Keri Hilson will be honored with the Music and Songwriter Icon Award for her accomplishments penning songs for some of the biggest names in music and the Legendary R&B Group The Whispers will take home the Legends Award for their incredible nearly six-decade music career.
​“We are more than excited to return to in-person taping for the first time in nearly three years with a live studio audience,” says Founder and Executive Producer, Don Jackson. “The pandemic had an unprecedented impact on the music industry and we’re honored to celebrate, commemorate and honor music trailblazers who have paved the way for the next generation of music and culture.”

​Multi-hyphenate LeToya Luckett will co-host the epic night of celebration along with Chicago Actor and Comedian DeRay Davis. The televised special is set to air in national broadcast syndication Saturday, June 4 - Sunday, July 3 and on Bounce TV on Saturday, June 25th.

BWFN Short Film Festival
Black Women Film Network, celebrating 25 years of preserving the stories of Black women, is proud to announce the annual BWFN Short Film Festival will take place Saturday, February 12, 2022 in partnership with Kweli TV, a Black woman-owned streaming platform featuring hundreds of curated independent films, documentaries, web series, kids programming and more.
 
For 24 hours, festival ticketholders can stream the 2022 film selections at Kweli.tv or through streaming devices and smart TVs. Tickets to access the virtual festival can be purchased HERE.
 
The following shorts have been selected for the 2022 festival:
Ethan Art Venture: Ethan’s Art-Venture is a short film about an autistic, illustrator who on his 9th birthday, is given a gift that allows him access to a powerful, imaginative, inner realm: a completely animated world. Every year, Ethan represents the school at the National Art Conference. However, this year there is a new, skillful artist competing who Ethan sees as a threat to his title as “best artist.” With determination to prove his artistic abilities, he is armed with only his trusty pencil to help him reclaim his prize.

Everything's Fine: After a tough day navigating the worries and stresses of her loved ones, an empathetic young woman struggles to find space for her own care.

Mercy spends the day helping those around her. While her care and empathy may seem endless to them, her decision to put others’ needs before her own is a constant drain of energy that comes at a personal cost.

Humanity: After an explosion rocks a small town, Lady M is abandoned and bullied by the company that took everything from her. Left with no options, she takes matters into her own hands. There is only one person that can stop her. Revenge is Justice.

Isolation: Two teenagers must face the most difficult time of their lives in solitude while the world grapples with the reality of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ivar Tunnel: Shook Ones: 'Ivar Tunnel: Shook Ones' is a darkly comedic social thriller that glimpses into the psyche and isolation of a black woman. Leigh Jones has moved into a new neighborhood in Hollywood, just beyond the Ivar Tunnel. Since moving, Leigh is met with icy glares and chilling shrieks from her neighbors. Simultaneously, Leigh is bombarded with notifications from the ‘Neighorlie’ app about the insidious happenings in Holly-hood.

Not Just a Name: Not Just a Name explores the stigma and racial bias experienced by African-Americans with unique sounding names, as well as the historical origin of these names in America.

Suga: A young southern baker uses reverie to sweeten her sour circumstances. 

 

Director: Anndi Jinelle Liggett
The Multi: An isolated Black Deaf woman has constructed a world of order to keep a childhood trauma buried deep in her psyche. Then an unexpected turn of events forces her to confront her demons from the past who threaten to destroy everything she has built. She tries to keep control of her life before it's too late.

NOMINEES AND HOST ANTHONY ANDERSON ANNOUNCED FOR
THE “53rd NAACP IMAGE AWARDS” AIRING SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 26TH
​AT 8:00 PM ET/ PT ON BET

Voting is open to the public and closes on February 5, 2022.  Winners will be announced during the 2 hour live special hosted by Anthony Anderson on Saturday, Feb. 26th at 8PM ET on BET.
​BET and the NAACP place the health and safety of attendees, staff, vendors, and partners first. Due to the ever-changing developments with COVID-19 and variants, the powerful night in Black excellence will continue to move forward without an in-person audience in a not-to-be-missed event.
 
Netflix leads nominations across motion picture and television + streaming categories. Insecure received the most nominations in the television + streaming categories. H.E.R. received the most nominations in the music recording categories. RCA Records received the most nominations across record labels. Amistad leads nominations across literary categories.
2022 NAACP Image Awards
​Recognized as the nation's preeminent multicultural awards show from an African-American perspective, the “53rd NAACP Image Awards” celebrates the outstanding achievements and performances of people of color across more than 80 competitive categories spanning film, television + streaming, music, literature, and podcasts. The “53rd NAACP Image Awards” will also include four new podcast categories:  Outstanding News and Information Podcast; Outstanding Lifestyle / Self-Help Podcast; Outstanding Society and Culture Podcast; and Outstanding Arts and Entertainment Podcast. The “53rd NAACP Image Awards” are presented by Wells Fargo and sponsored by AT&T, Google, T-Mobile, Bank of America, General Mills, FedEx, and Airbnb.
​Internationally, the show will air on BET Africa at 20:00 CAT on February 27, followed by BET France on March 2 at 8:45 pm CEST. The show will also be available to watch on My5 and Sky On-Demand in the UK beginning March 1.
