NEWSOURCE: HATCHETT PRIn recognition of World AIDS Day, December 1, Atlanta-based, Horizon Theatre, the Black Leadership AIDS Crisis Coalition (BLACC) and AIDS Healthcare Foundation, the world’s largest provider of HIV/AIDS services, bring to the virtual stage Love, M., a powerful story about mothers, sons, and AIDS activists during the early days of the AIDS Crisis. The free virtual premiere will star actor and activist Lamman Rucker from the television series Greenleaf and actor and Broadway icon Terry Burrell. The live virtual premiere on Tuesday, December 1, will begin at 7 PM (EST). The evening will include a pre-show welcome, the play, and, in partnership with rolling out Health IQ, a post-show conversation, moderated by award-winning journalist Patrick L. Riley with guests, Lamman Rucker, Gabriel Maldonado, CEO of TruEvolution and former Obama appointee to the President’s Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS, mental health professional Dr. Shalondra K. Each year, CAS awards general operating and project support to non-profit arts and community organizations, as well as project support to individual artists based and producing work in the City of Atlanta. The program, initiated in 1982 to support Atlanta’s thriving arts community, awards annual contracts related to the production, creation, presentation, exhibition, and managerial support of artistic and cultural services in the City of Atlanta. “In the last ten years, the City of Atlanta has increased the annual investment in the individuals and organizations that work each day to improve the quality of life in our city through the arts,” said Camille Russell Love, Executive Director of the Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs. “We are extremely pleased with both the quality and breadth of arts programs and projects we’ll be helping to put on throughout the City of Atlanta as a result of this highly competitive process.” During the fiscal year 2021, the City of Atlanta, through the Contracts for Arts Services program, will provide municipal support for the arts totaling over $1.7 million to 13 individual artists, 76 arts organizations, and 14 community and neighborhood organizations in the city of Atlanta. NEWS SOUCE: Atlanta Track ClubHeld annually on July 4, the Peachtree Road Race was postponed to Thanksgiving Day in hopes the COVID-19 pandemic would subside enough for large gatherings. When it became clear an in-person event would not be possible, race organizers Atlanta Track Club announced the race would be held virtually over the course of four days from November 26-29. Race packets began shipping via UPS and will be arriving at participant’s homes. Registration for the AJC Peachtree Road Race is open until November 1. |
